Art-based education built to inspire future generations — across Wales, the UK and internationally
Created by Welsh Artist Jeffrey Phillips — Millennium Commission Fellowship Award Winner
Get In TouchThe Wheel of Balance is a 12-panel educational artwork created by Welsh artist Jeffrey Phillips — winner of a lifelong Fellowship Award from the Millennium Commission. With over 25 years of educational engagement and use in schools throughout Wales, it is the flagship programme of Heritage Life Horizons CIC. Designed to help young people and communities understand how creativity, sustainability, history, innovation and community all connect, it covers every key industry that shapes our world — from energy and technology to agriculture and marine biology, from industry through to space exploration. With sustainability and environmental consciousness at its heart, the Wheel of Balance is a dynamic, flexible educational tool for schools, home educators, community groups and organisations across the UK and internationally.
The programme is built around 12 subject panels, each exploring a different and interconnected aspect of our world. Participants can explore all 12 or a selected number depending on their programme.

The Wheel of Balance is fully flexible and designed to fit around your existing needs. Teachers, home educators and group leaders can choose the sequence of panels, the depth of exploration for each topic, and the teaching methods that suit their group best — from creative arts and hands-on activities to discussion, outdoor learning and interdisciplinary projects.
Choose any number of panels and teach them in any sequence. Integrate into existing subjects and curriculum goals. Teach one panel per session or combine them. Works in classrooms, outdoor environments, or remotely. Flexible across term time, out of term time, and extracurricular settings.
A structured, engaging programme that can be tailored entirely to your child's pace, interests and learning style. Teach indoors, outdoors or remotely — whatever works best for you.
Fully adaptable for group settings, workshops and community projects. Can be delivered in person or remotely. Suitable for all ages and backgrounds, including intergenerational groups.
Heritage Life Horizons CIC is a registered Community Interest Company delivering measurable social impact through art-based sustainability education — backed by a 25-year proven track record and active programmes across the UK and internationally.
Participants engage with each panel through discussion, creative arts and hands-on activities. Every participant is also invited to create their own personal Wheel of Balance — a meaningful creative expression of what they have learned and how they see the world.
Creative arts is about interaction, engagement and freedom of expression. We believe this approach to learning helps young people open up, be inspired, and apply themselves in ways that make learning proactive and fun. Through the Wheel of Balance, students develop curiosity, confidence and a genuine excitement about the world they live in — and the opportunities that lie ahead of them.
We would love to hear from you — whether you are a school, home educator, community organisation, funder or international partner.
